Prep volleyball: South wraps up undefeated conference season

The South Wolverines celebrated Senior Night by completing an undefeated conference season with a Thursday win over Eagle River.

Senior Makenna Hurd turned in a match-high 20 digs for South, which finished the Cook Inlet Conference regular season with a 14-0 record. Hurt plans to play college volleyball for UAA, South coach Judy Knecht said.

Emma Jean Kleven directed the offense with 24 assists and Emilye Grace Williams and Ashton Jessee each totaled seven kills for the Wolverines. Williams added four blocks.

The win was the third in three nights for the Wolverines.

Holy Rosary wins in 3

Monica Klump handed out a season-high 28 assists and put down four kills to help Holy Rosary cruise past Cook Inlet Academy in three sets Thursday 25-15, 25-11, 26-24.

Sarah Lucas also reached a season-high by pounding 16 kills. Julianna Biegel contributed nine kills and two aces, and Mary Tappel and Heather Siebs chipped in nine digs apiece.

Cook Inlet Academy was led by senior Richelle McGahan.

Archangels triumph

The Lumen Christi volleyball team won its first conference match of the season Thursday with a home win over Cook Inlet Academy 25-16, 19-25, 25-21, 25-23.

The Archangels trailed by nine points in the fourth set before senior Lexi Adams served 10 straight points to give them the lead.

Lumen was led by freshman Chiamaka Lebechi with six kills, three aces and two blocks. Adams tallied eight aces and three kills and sophomore Maeve Bakic added five kills and two aces.

Lumen improved to 3-9 on the season and 1-5 in conference play.
