One in critical condition after downtown Anchorage shooting

A man was hospitalized in critical condition after a shooting in downtown Anchorage early Saturday morning, police said.

The shooting happened in a parking lot on West Third Avenue between C and E streets just after 3 a.m., Anchorage police said in a statement. Around that time, 911 callers reported hearing shots fired in the area, police said.

Shortly after, police said, a man arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds. The man, who has not been publicly identified, remained in critical condition Saturday morning.

As of Saturday evening, no one had been charged or arrested in connection with the shooting, said Anchorage police spokeswoman Renee Oistad. She said police were still investigating.

Oistad said no other information was being released about the incident. She added that police did not have a reason to suspect a general threat to public safety.
