2-semi wreck on Parks Highway sends 2 drivers to hospital

A collision involving two semi trucks on the Parks Highway near Nenana left both drivers injured late Monday evening, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The crash, involving 38-year-old Ronald E. Trujillo of Anchorage and 52-year-old Fairbanks man Ernest E. Holt, occurred at Mile 289 of the highway. A Wednesday dispatch said troopers first received a report about it shortly after 11:15 p.m. Monday.

"Investigation revealed (Trujillo) lost control of his semi while negotiating a curve," troopers wrote. "One of Trujillo's trailers collided with a southbound semi driven by (Holt)."

Both men were taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, but neither of them were listed as patients at the hospital Wednesday.

An email sent to troopers spokespersons requesting further details on the crash wasn't immediately answered Wednesday afternoon.

Although the highway was closed for several hours after the wreck, troopers were soon able to open one lane for intermittent travel as the trucks and debris were cleared from the scene.

"The recovery and removal of the vehicles/trailers took several hours and required temporary highway closures throughout the process," troopers wrote.
