Mountain lessons — Canadian skier and climber Greg Hill will describe a near miss in the Himalayas and most recently a misadventure in Pakistan in benefit for Friends of the Chugach Avalanche Center. 8 p.m. at Bear Tooth Theatrepub. Tickets $20.

SATURDAY

Learn archery — Want to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow? Instructors from Northwest Archers will offer their expertise. All instructors are certified by the National Archery in the Schools Program. Northwest Archers will supply equipment. All skill levels welcome. Public use cabins in Alaska — What's your favorite getaway cabin in Alaska? Join Eagle River Nature Center staff to share pictures, stories, and practical details. The program begins with the Nature Center's own cabins and yurts before opening the floor for you to share your favorites. 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Eagle River Nature Center. MONDAY

Early season Muni Masters skate ski — Ski program for adults who wish to improve their physical condition, meet ski partners, and improve their skate-skiing skills. Will cover skating techniques, training, personal goals and introduction to ski racing and tours. Alaska Outdoors hikes — Alaska Outdoors hosts easy to moderate social hikes every Monday and Thursday, all year, throughout Anchorage. Monday hike is designed for beginners and families with children, on established wide and mostly flat trails for 1.5 hours. Speedskating — The Alaska Speedskating Club offers opportunities for people of all ages with any level of skating experience to learn how to speed skate. The first session is free. Skates and protective gear are provided. Bring your own helmet if you have one. Come at 7:45 a.m. Saturday to get gear, if needed. Skating 7-8 p.m. Tuesdays, Subway Sports Centre.
