Woman shot in S. Anchorage was helping child with homework when bullet hit her, APD says

A 37-year-old woman who was shot Tuesday evening in a South Anchorage neighborhood was helping her 6-year-old with homework when a bullet hit her in the face, Anchorage police say.

The woman has not been publicly identified and was in stable, but critical condition Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Police responded to the home where she was shot, a condominium on Forest Village Drive across the street from Dimond High School, after a report came in at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

In a Wednesday afternoon update, the Anchorage Police Department said multiple shots were fired at the home from outside. On Tuesday evening, a window in a car in the driveway was shattered.

"Following the shooting, police believe the suspect(s) fled the area in a vehicle heading west on West 88th Avenue and northbound on Jewel Lake Road," police said.

APD spokeswoman Jennifer Castro wouldn't say whether or not the woman knew the shooter.

Anyone who may have seen or heard something is being urged to call police at 907-786-8900 or by leaving an anonymous tip with Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP.
