Parks Highway reopened after fatal crash near Wasilla

The Parks Highway was closed for almost four hours at Pittman Road near Wasilla on Thursday after a crash that left one man dead.

Vincent Jenkins, 81, of Wasilla was killed after a truck headed southbound crossed the center lane and hit Jenkins' sedan head-on, Alaska State Troopers said. The agency identified the driver of the truck as 41-year-old David Fraker, also of Wasilla.

Mat-Su Emergency Services deputy chief Ken Barkley said the crash near Mile 48 was initially reported at about 9:10 a.m. Thursday. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Barkley said the other driver, Fraker, was extricated by medics and taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

The Parks Highway was reopened at 1:15 p.m.
