Relay teams from UAF swept the top two places in a mixed relay Sunday at Hatcher Pass to carry the Nanooks to the overall victory in the Alaska Nordic Cup, the annual dual meet between UAA and UAF.
The team of Michael Ferenbach, Anne-Tine Markset, Max Donaldson and Nicole Bathe won the 20-kilometer race with a time of 58 minutes, 28.5 seconds. Each skier completed a 5-kilometer skate leg.
Placing second for the Nanooks was the team of Seiji Takagi, Anni Uhl, Nick Lovett and Sarissa Lammers, who combined for a time of 59:40.7.
UAA's team of Etienne Richard, Patricia Sprecher, Toomas Kollo and Mackenzie Kanady placed third in 60:08.3.
The day's fastest legs came from Kanady, the fastest woman in 15:33.5, and UAF's Jan Cech, a member of the fourth-place team who topped the men in 13:10.0.
UAF won the overall team title for the eighth time in 12 years to stake an 8-3-1 record in the season-opening meet.
