Hockey history: Aces at the one-third pole (ouch)

This is unlikely to come as a shock to those even halfway paying attention, but the Alaska Aces' start (8-13-3) this ECHL season is their worst in 13 seasons on the circuit.

Wednesday night's 5-0 loss at Utah -- by the way, the Grizzlies are 4-0-0 against the Aces -- marked Alaska's 24th game of the season. That's the one-third pole in the 72-game regular season. And, as you will see, 8-13-3 is the worst the franchise has ever been to this point in an ECHL campaign.

For the glass-half-full crowd, note that the Aces, with 19 points, are actually just one point out of playoff position in the Western Conference. For the glass-half-empty crowd, note that the Aces, as of Thursday morning, have played more games than every team above it in the conference standings.
