South wrestlers still on top, win CIC tournament

South cruised to the Cook Inlet Conference wrestling championship with wins in 10 of the 15 championship matches Saturday at Chugiak.

The Wolverines won with 446 points — well ahead of second-place Chugiak's 237. East finished third with 161.5.

The win gives South nine CIC championships in the 12 years since the school opened in 2004. Greg Shack's victory at 132 pounds marked his fourth straight CIC title.

The top six finishers in each weight class advance to the state meet Friday and Saturday at Chugiak and Bartlett.

South will go into the tournament hoping for its first state title since 2012. The Wolverines finished second each of the last two years.
