Lumen Christi: All 3 Glennallen teams triumph

All three Glennallen teams posted victories Thursday during the opening round of the Lumen Christi Invitational basketball tournament.

Glennallen's girls JV team and the Kuskokwim Learning Academy of Bethel provided some first-day drama by battling to a tie in regulation to force the day's only overtime game. Glennallen prevailed in the extra period for a 33-26 win.

Glennallen's Grace Nechanicky and Kuskokwim's Mikayla Tinker shared scoring honors with 12 points apiece. Layla Sawyer added 10 for Glennallen.

Glennallen also got wins from the girls varsity team and the boys varsity team.

In other girls games:

-- Sierra Virgin scored 19 points and Cierra David contributed 14 for the Glennallen varsity team in a 53-32 win over host Lumen Christi.

The Archangels got a boost from a pair of freshmen -- Nyadeng Puoy (14 points) and Chiamaka Lebechi (9).

-- Kayla Morgan supplied 23 points in Aniak's 64-24 romp over Tri Valley. Most of Tri Valley's points came from Olivia Juhl, who finished with 18.

-- Ellie Bietsch poured in 20 points and Deborah Johnston added 11 to lead the Su Valley girls past the Grace Christian JVs 54-30.

Jenna Markel and Maddie Morgan each scored nine points for Grace.

In boys action:

-- Lumen Christi's Joey Brown was the game's top scorer with 16 points but Glennallen's balanced attack produced more firepower in a 42-28 win for the Panthers.

Aidan Fields led Glennallen with 12 points.

-- Cody Morgan was the game's only double-figure scorer in Su Valley's 44-24 win over the Grace Christian JVs.

Morgan tossed in 14 points. Tyran Waterhouse chipped in nine points for the winners, and Turner Goforth provided nine for the Grizzlies.

-- Trey McConkey and Aiden Fields combined for 25 points to lead Glennallen past Kuskokwim Learning Academy 56-38. McConkey scored 13 and Fields 12.

Michael Lincoln topped Kuskokwim, a team from Bethel, with 10 points.

-- Lucas Less racked up 23 points to power Tri Valley's 55-44 win over Aniak. Logan Juhl added 12 points for the winners.

Matthew Morgan's 23 points lifted Aniak.
