Lime Solar tournament: Eielson boys mount fourth-quarter comeback

The Eielson boys rallied to a fourth-quarter comeback Friday in loser's bracket action at the Lime Solar/Pepsi Invitational at Anchorage Christian.

The Ravens trailed for most of the game, but they kept it close enough to make a move in the fourth quarter and grab the victory.

Antonio Griffith paced Eielson with 21 points and Matthew Scarboro added 15 — 12 coming in the first half to keep the game close.

The late winner's bracket games were the Valdez girls and boys teams versus Barrow and the Bethel girls and boys teams against ACS.

The three-day tournament of mostly 3A schools concludes Saturday at ACS.

Point Hope girls 69, Delta 43

Shauna Koonuk tallied 19 points to again lead Point Hope and the Harpoonerettes rebounded from a first-round loss to beat Delta.

Ninie Powers had a game-high 21 points for the Huskies.

Delta boys 75, Kotzebue 46

Micah Helkenn scored 23 points and went a perfect 3 of 3 from the free-throw line and Martese Blankenship added 21 points hitting three 3-pointers to lead Delta over Kotzebue.

The loser's bracket win advances Delta to Saturday's fifth-place game.

Harry Baldwin (11 points), Andrew Bergen (11) and Sam Smith (10) paced Kotzebue.

Kotzebue girls 32, Eielson 23

Kotzebue only scored two points in the first quarter and failed to get a scorer in double figures, but the Huskies rallied to beat Eielson.

Miranda Eakin boosted Kotzebue with nine points.

Savannah Scott had 10 for Eielson, but eight of them came in the first half.

Eielson boys 62, Point Hope 57

Antonio Griffith helped rally Eielson to a fourth-quarter comeback against Point Hope.

Griffith scored 21 points — six in the fourth quarter — and Eielson overcame a five-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter to come back and win by five.

Andrew Oktollik and Patrick Turner led Point Hope with 16 points apiece but the duo combined for only five points in the fourth quarter.
