Alaska's unemployment rate in December was essentially unchanged compared to November.
The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate last month was 6.5 percent, following three consecutive months of a 6.4 percent unemployment rate, the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development said Friday. The nationwide average is 5 percent.
"Alaska's seasonally adjusted rate showed no clear trend in 2015, consistent with other economic indicators that suggest last year's economy was relatively flat," the department said in a release.
The non-seasonally adjusted rate did rise last month, from 6.4 percent in November to 6.6 percent in December.
The Denali Borough had the biggest non-adjusted unemployment increase, at 2.2 percent, followed by the Haines Borough and the Aleutians West Census Area, which both had unemployment increases of 2 percent. Skagway had the highest December unemployment rate at 22.6 percent.
The North Slope and Juneau boroughs had 4.7 percent unadjusted unemployment last month -- the lowest in the state.
