1 dead, traffic rerouted after Sterling Highway crash near Soldotna

Alaska State Troopers have identified the driver killed in a collision involving two Soldotna residents on the Sterling Highway Monday morning, with the cause of the crash still under investigation.

Troopers said in a Monday dispatch that the head-on collision at Mile 90 of the Sterling just after 5:30 a.m. killed 19-year-old Raquelle Reynolds.

Reynolds was at the wheel of a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox that collided with a 2013 Chevy Silverado pickup driven by 59-year-old Randolph Carlyle, according to troopers. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

"Upon arrival troopers determined (Reynolds) was deceased," troopers wrote. "(Carlyle) was transported to a local hospital with what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries."

Next of kin for both Reynolds and Carlyle have been notified, troopers said.

Traffic was rerouted around the crash site after the wreck. Troopers said investigative work would take several more hours Monday.
