Alaska Outdoors weekly hikes — Alaska Outdoors hosts easy to moderate social hikes every Monday and Thursday, all year, throughout Anchorage. Monday hike is designed for hiking beginners and families with children, on established wide and mostly flat trails for 1.5 hours. Knik Canoers and Kayakers general meeting — 7-9 p.m. Thursday, BP Energy Center. Jack Mosby will show slides of summer 2015 trips down the Kukpowruk River (14 days and 150 miles in the northwest corner of the North Slope) as well as the Kuguroruk, Kelly, and Noatak Rivers on the south side of northwest Brooks Range. ?Baxter Bog walk — 8:45-9:45 a.m. Friday. Join Clo Giffen, friend of Baxter Bog, on a weekly walk. Come see the amazing seasonal changes. Meet in the Anchorage Waldorf School parking lot and walk together to the bog. Free.

SATURDAY, Jan. 30

Wolf Run 5-K and half marathon for Habitat for Humanity — 9:30 a.m., UAA, 3190 Alumni Drive. Timed event. Start times: half marathon at 9:30 a.m., 5-K at 10:30 a.m. Wolf-themed costumes encouraged. Course: 5-K, multi-use trails in the UAA/Goose Lake area, out and back. Half, multi-use trails from UAA to Earthquake Park, out and back. Three aid and water tables on the course. Westchester Lagoon family skate — Savor those beautiful, crisp winter days in Anchorage. There is more than a mile of ice for skating, pulling little ones on sleds and speedskating. There are also special hockey and figure skating areas. Warm up at the burn barrels or re-energize with food and refreshments while enjoying music, games and some special surprises. Beginning adult skate ski lessons — 1:30-3 p.m. Saturday, Selkregg Chalet, Russian Jack Springs Park. You'll learn all the basic skills so you can head out on the trails with confidence. The skate skiing lesson will teach you how to glide, stop, climb hills, poling, v-skating and diagonal skating techniques in a small group setting with an experienced instructor. MONDAY, Feb. 1

Alaska Fly Fishers — 7-9 p.m., Anchorage Elks Lodge, Northway Mall. Whether you're new to fly fishing, new to fishing in Alaska or a veteran of Alaska rivers, streams and lakes, join an informational, friendly get-together at the Elks Club in the Northway Mall. Starting at 6:30 p.m. we'll have a fly fishing roundtable along with food and drinks. In months the group doesn't hold a meeting, they'll have scheduled activities streamside or in the community. This four-lesson series will teach you to diagonal stride, stop and turn, use poles, climb hills and move over varied terrain in a small group setting with an experienced instructor. Classes are held at Kincaid Park on Mondays and Wednesdays Feb. 1, 3, 8, 10. TUESDAY, Feb. 2

Speedskating — Alaska Speedskating Club offers opportunities for people of all ages who have any level of previous skating experience to learn how to speedskate. The first session is free. Skates and protective gear are provided. Bring your own helmet if you have one. Cost is determined by frequency of participation.
