Sarah Palin: I wasn't blaming President Obama for my son's arrest

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Monday defended comments she made at a Donald Trump rally in Oklahoma when she seemed to blame her son's behavior on President Obama for not doing more to help veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Palin insisted on NBC's "Today" show that she said nothing "offensive" and was not blaming Obama for her son's arrest on charges related to a domestic violence incident at the Palin family home in Wasilla.

"I never blamed President Obama. What I have blamed President Obama in doing though is this level of disrespect for the United States military that is made manifest in getting budgets, in not trying to beef it up and let our military do the job that they are trained to do and in specific issues that we're talking about that are so hot today, specifically, let's get in there and let's utterly destroy ISIS," Palin said.

Here's what Palin said at the Trump rally last month: "What my own son is going through, what he is going through coming back, I can relate to other families who feel ramifications of PTSD and some of the woundedness that our soldiers do return with. And it makes me realize, more than ever, it is now or never for the sake of America's finest that we have that commander in chief who will respect them and honor them."

Palin also said she has no regrets having endorsed billionaire Trump for president over his rival Ted Cruz, whom she endorsed during his run for a seat in the U.S. Senate.

Speaking to NBC on the morning of the Iowa caucuses, Palin said her past support "added some momentum" to Cruz's campaign and as the senator from Texas, he has gone on to fight for the American people.

"I want to keep him in the Senate and I want Donald Trump to be our president," she said.
