Prep basketball: Palmer boys leave West with victory

The Palmer Moose defeated the West Eagles 47-43 in an intense, nonconference boys basketball game at West High on Friday night.

Palmer led by seven points at the half and by six after three quarters. In the final quarter, the Moose knocked down three 3-pointers and seven free throws to keep the Eagles at bay.

Michael Kluting scored 15 points and Payton Martin added 14 to lead Palmer.

"It's good to come here at their house and show them who's ready to go," Kluting said. "West High definitely pressured us and made us think a lot tonight."

West's Da'Zhon Wyche led all scorers with 18 points.

Dimond boys 53, Wasilla 46

Eric Jenkins tossed in 17 points and Dimond enjoyed a huge third quarter Friday in a 53-46 nonconference win over Wasilla.

Dimond trailed 25-24 at the half in Wasilla but seized control by outscoring the Warriors 17-9 in the third quarter.

Kobe Brown's 21 points sparked Wasilla.

Colony boys 68, Anchorage Christian 67

Tyler Boyer scored 13 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter and Colony came from behind to beat ACS 68-67 Friday in a boys basketball thriller at Colony.

Trey Huckabay chalked up 25 points for the Lions. Mareng Gatkuoth added 19.

In a back-and-forth game, Colony led 22-9 after the first quarter, but only led 35-31 at the half.

ACS held Colony to nine points in the third quarter to take 47-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter, where Colony recovered thanks to Boyer's monster game.

Colony's Joshua James also scored in double figures with 16 points.

Grace Christian boys 64, Eagle River 34

Trevor Osborne nailed five 3-pointers and had 17 points in the first quarter of Grace Christian's 64-34 thumping of Eagle River in a Friday boys basketball game at Grace Christian.

Osborne finished with 25 points and Tobin Karlberg added 11.

Aaron Davis led Eagle River with 13 points.

Grace Christian girls 50, Eagle River 18

Sarah Laker scored 17 points — almost as many as the entire Eagle River team — in Grace Christian's 50-18 girls basketball win over the Wolves on Friday at Grace Christian.

Shade Gopie chipped in six points for Eagle River.

Grace Christian's stingy defense held Eagle River scoreless in the third quarter. The Grizzlies also nabbed 13 steals.
