Chugiak storms past Dimond in CIC hockey championship

The No. 4-seeded Chugiak boys hockey team cruised past No. 2 Dimond 6-2 for the Cook Inlet Conference championship victory Saturday at Ben Boeke Arena.

After a scoreless first period, the Mustangs went up 2-1 in the second period before reeling off four goals in the final period to seal the win.

Zachary Plucinski supplied two goals to lead Chugiak. John Hammer, Andrew Beckett, Rhys Cottle and Cody Curfman also scored for the Mustangs.

Ryan Perius and Cody Dearing scored for Dimond.

Chugiak goaltender Jack Walters finished with 26 saves and Chris Gardeline had 32 stops for Dimond.

Both Chugiak and Dimond will next play in the Alaska state tournament Feb. 11-13 at the Menard Sports Center in Wasilla, with Chugiak playing as the CIC's top seed.
