State hockey consolation games: West Valley, Colony advance

West Valley 7, Soldotna 1

West Valley took out its frustration from Thursday's opening-round loss to upstart Eagle River by pummeling Soldotna in a consolation game Friday at the First National Cup state hockey tournament in Wasilla.

Caleb Moretz spearheaded the Wolfpack with two goals and three assists at the Menard Center, and Gabe Rankin furnished two goals and a helper. Stoshie Skorulski added one goal and two assists, and Trenton Woods and Dustin Sadler chipped in one goal each.

West Valley outshot Soldotna, 43-7.

Cameron Knowlton scored the Stars' goal.

Colony 8, Juneau 1

Otto Thiele's hat trick and two assists pushed the Knights into Saturday's fourth-place game against West Valley.

Jacob Kirsh scored two goals for Colony, and Wyatt Vrana, Dayne Cole and Jake Branch each contributed a goal. Cade Havel chipped in two assists and Alex Gamez stopped 21 shots.

Ryan Liebelt delivered Juneau's goal.
