Anchorage snowboarder Stassel earns bronze in World Cup big air competition

Anchorage snowboarder Ryan Stassel claimed his first podium finish in a World Cup big air competition Saturday night in Quebec.

Stassel, 23, placed third behind Max Parrot and Tyler Nicholson, both of Canada.

The reigning world champion in slopestyle and a member of the 2014 Olympic team, Stassel scored 175.50 points for his career-best result in big air. His previous best result was fourth place in a 2014 competition in Istanbul.

The gold medal went to Parrot (192.25) and the silver went to Nicholson (179.50). Placing seventh with a score of 115.5 was Anchorage's Brett Moody.
