2 boaters found dead Saturday in Southeast Alaska

Alaska State Troopers say no foul play is suspected in the deaths of two men whose bodies were discovered on Southeast Alaska beaches Saturday after an apparent boating accident.

Troopers identified the two men in a dispatch Saturday evening as Sundown Arasmith, 40, and Arnold Jongsma, 60. Troopers were first informed shortly before noon Saturday of a single body on a beach of Admiralty Island, near Horse Island.

"Troopers responded and identified the body as (Arasmith)," troopers wrote. "While troopers were investigating the scene, a report of another deceased body was received, located on the north beach of Horse Island. Troopers responded and identified that body as (Jongsma)."

A subsequent investigation found that Arasmith and Jongsma had left Lena Point by boat on Friday, hoping to reach Shelter Island.

Both bodies have been sent to the State Medical Examiner Office in Anchorage for an autopsy.
