2 people injured by gunfire at South Anchorage party

Two people were injured by gunfire at a South Anchorage party Sunday morning, with Anchorage police asking anyone with information on the people responsible to come forward.

Two people -- a 16-year-old juvenile shot in the leg and an 18-year-old woman shot in the chest -- suffered non-life-threatening wounds, police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said in a statement Sunday

After police were called to the vicinity of 64th Avenue and C Street to investigate the report of the teen shot in the leg, they tracked it back to a party on the 8900 block of Spring Street, off East Dimond Boulevard just east of the Old Seward Highway.

"Police were able to ascertain the shooting had occurred on (Spring Street) where a party was going on," Oistad wrote. "Police responded to Spring Street and found several vehicles with bullet holes in them. According to witnesses, there was some type of altercation and at least two people fired several shots outside."

About an hour after the initial call, the 18-year-old wounded woman arrived at a local hospital. Her injuries, caused by a bullet, were also linked to the Spring Street party.

Oistad said the "altercation" appeared to involve people who were already at the party, but didn't immediately have further information from investigators Sunday afternoon.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact either police at 907-786-8900 or Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 907-561-STOP or its website.

Correction: This article originally stated two people were injured by shots fired from a BB gun; the type of weapon used to shoot the juvenile wasn't specified by investigators. UPDATE Feb. 16: Police said the injuries sustained by a victim in Sunday's shooting who showed up at the hospital were from a bullet, not a BB gun.
