Budget coalition hires third lobbyist, while Joule will lobby for Lottsfeldt

JUNEAU — Reggie Joule, a former state legislator and Northwest Arctic Borough mayor, has newly registered as a lobbyist, while Alaska's Future, the budget-reform coalition spearheaded by GCI President Ron Duncan, has boosted its Juneau presence by hiring a third lobbyist, Mary Sattler.

Joule announced last year that he wouldn't seek re-election as mayor. He registered last week to lobby for the firm owned by Jim Lottsfeldt.

Lottsfeldt's clients include the municipality of Anchorage, insurance company Moda Health, and fisheries trade group Groundfish Forum. Lottsfeldt will pay Joule $2,500 a month.

Joule, who served eight terms in the Legislature, declined to answer a reporter's questions as he entered the Capitol on Monday. Lottsfeldt wouldn't say what Joule would be working on beyond, as Lottsfeldt put it in a text message, "lobbyist stuff."

The new lobbyist hired by the Alaska's Future budget reform group is Mary Sattler, who will be paid $25,000 for the year. She joins two other Alaska's Future lobbyists in pushing lawmakers to use the Alaska Permanent Fund to help pay for government.

Sattler's other clients include the Southwest hub community of Bethel, and Chugach Alaska Corp., a regional native corporation.
