Juneau police seek masked man for assault, attempted kidnapping

Juneau police are investigating two instances in which a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a black ski mask pulled a gun on people.

The first incident happened around 9:45 p.m. on Feb. 24, according to the Juneau Police Department. A woman heard a noise behind her home on Delta Drive and when her husband went to investigate he found a man behind the house, police said.

"When confronted, the male suspect pulled a gun," police said.

The husband ran back inside the house and called 911. Responding officers couldn't find the man. The victims told police he wore a camouflage hoodie and "a distinctive black ski mask with white around the mouth," according to JPD.

On Wednesday, the same woman involved in the first incident was getting into her car near the 1900 block of Dunn Street when she was grabbed from behind. A man wearing a black hoodie and the distinctive ski mask tried to subdue her with a "bear hug" but she resisted, police said.

The man pointed a black gun at the woman and ordered her into the car, police said.

"The woman fought back and was struck in the face with the gun. The male suspect then ran away toward the area of Glacier Highway," according to JPD.

The woman went to a business and the police were called. Police again were unsuccessful in their search for the suspect. The woman was treated for injuries to her face at Bartlett Regional Hospital, police said.

Juneau police ask anyone with information about the case to call them immediately. They describe the suspect as 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a skinny body, a dark complexion and large dark brown eyes.
