Aleknagik man faces attempted murder charge for allegedly stabbing wife

An Aleknagik man has been indicted on an attempted murder charge for stabbing his wife multiple times in and near their home in the Southwest village, according to the Anchorage District Attorney's Office.

A grand jury handed up two charges -- attempted murder and first-degree assault -- against Robin Chythlook on Thursday. Prosecutors say Chythlook stabbed his wife multiple times.

A village public safety officer intervened during the alleged stabbing, and Chythlook pointed a rifle at the officer, according to the state. Alaska State Troopers said at that time they arrested Chythlook after a brief standoff.

The indictment comes after an investigation by troopers and the village officers.

Chythlook faces a sentence of five to 99 years on the attempted murder charge if convicted. He is set to make an initial court appearance on the charges Tuesday in Dillingham, 16 miles southeast from Aleknagik, home to about 220 Alaskans.
