Missing Anchorage man found safe in Haines after Silver Alert

"An Alaska State Trooper in Haines recognized Hodge's vehicle from the Silver Alert description and was able to make contact through a traffic stop," troopers wrote.

Original story:

Alaska State Troopers are seeking the public's help in locating a 76-year-old Anchorage man who is considered endangered and believed to be driving in Interior Alaska, after being last seen in the Big Lake area Sunday.

According to a Silver Alert issued early Monday, Henry Hodge was wearing a red plaid shirt, black down vest, tan down coat and black Levi's jeans.

"He was last seen on Erika Drive and is believed to be in danger," officials wrote. "Authorities believe he may be traveling in a white 2008 Dodge Ram 1500, (license plate) FUW497."

Troopers said in a subsequent dispatch that Hodge was reported missing at about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, after he was last seen at about 3:45 p.m. that afternoon. Activity on Hodge's bank card early Monday indicated it had been used in Fairbanks and then in Tok a few hours later.

"Hodge's direction of travel is currently unknown," troopers wrote. "He likely does not have a final destination in mind and could be anywhere along the road system. Canadian and U.S. customs have been notified."

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said the description of Hodge as endangered came from the family members who told troopers he was missing Sunday.

"That's what was reported to us," Peters said.

Peters said drivers across Alaska should be on the lookout for Hodge's four-door white Dodge pickup, which has some clutter atop its dashboard as well as a small red Honda 2000 generator and a large black garbage bag in the rear area. She said the truck's license plate may be obscured by snow.

"It's crucial that people everywhere recognize that this is a statewide issue," Peters said. "He's from Anchorage, he was seen in Nancy Lake, he was in Fairbanks and Tok."

Anyone who has seen Hodge -- who has hazel eyes, short gray hair and a gray, bushy mustache, stands 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds -- or has information on his whereabouts should call 911 or the Silver Alert hotline at 855-745-8799.
