Searchers find snowmachine belonging to man missing on Norton Bay

Searchers using dragging hooks from sea ice in Norton Bay have recovered a snowmachine belonging to a 22-year-old Western Alaska man who disappeared last week.

Roger Hannon of Koyuk on Thursday was traveling from Elim to Koyuk in a blizzard Thursday with another person when they became separated.

Koyuk and Elim responders began a search Thursday for Hannon. Bad weather hampered the search Friday.

Alaska State Troopers say searchers using dragging hooks found his snowmachine in open water at the ice edge about 2.5 miles east of Elim.

Searchers continued efforts Sunday with a remote-operated vehicle. A search was to resume Monday.

Koyuk is 90 miles northeast of Nome.
