UAA gymnasts land 4 of top 5 GPAs on MPSF All-Academic team

UAA gymnasts garnered four of the top five overall GPAs out of the 42 honorees named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic team Tuesday. Eight Seawolves were honored.

The senior duo of professional piloting major Marie-Sophie Boggasch (Schwarzenbach am Wald, Germany) and natural sciences major Simone Penker (Maria Saal, Austria) tied for conference-best honors for the third year in a row, matching Sacramento State senior Kalliah McCartney with perfect 4.0 GPAs.

Meanwhile, junior Julia York (Mission Viejo, Calif.; psychology) and sophomore Madeleine Arbuckle (Winnipeg, Manitoba; environmental studies) tied for the league's fourth-best mark with 3.92s.

Senior Sariaye Fishburn (Las Vegas, Nev.; 3.52, elementary education) and junior Nicole Larkin (Kennewick, Wash.; 3.37, biological sciences) each earned their second career academic awards, while sophomore Morgan Ross (Reno., Nev.; 3.67, environment & society) and junior Brice Mizell (Mill City, Ore.; 3.33, nursing) were first-time honorees.

To be eligible, athletes must carry a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA, be in at least their second season and compete in at least 50 percent of meets.
