Occupants flee after crashing stolen SUV in East Anchorage

Police are seeking the occupants of a stolen sport-utility vehicle that rolled over early Monday in a single-vehicle East Anchorage wreck.

According to police spokeswoman Anita Shell, officers responding to the intersection of Bragaw Street and San Jeronimo Drive at about 4:45 a.m. found the vehicle -- a gray Honda SUV -- "on its side and running."

Shell said it wasn't immediately clear how the crash took place, but no injuries to anyone outside the vehicle were reported. After the SUV rolled, witnesses told officers that the people inside fled before responders showed up.

"They saw people running toward Costco," Shell said. "We don't have a real good suspect description."

The Honda had been reported stolen early Sunday by its owner, who said it had been taken between 3 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Anyone with information on the SUV's occupants is asked to call police at 907-786-8900.
