Person charged with homicide after death at secluded Southeast cabin

Update: Alaska State Troopers have identified the suspect charged as 53-year-old Juneau resident Mark De Simone.

A person has been arrested and faces homicide charges after Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a death at a remote cabin in Excursion Inlet.

Around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, the Coast Guard relayed the report to troopers – a man was dead at the cabin 35 miles west of Juneau, troopers said in a dispatch Monday night.

State and wildlife troopers responded and took an unidentified person into custody. "Subsequent homicide charges have been filed," the dispatch says.

The family of the victim, who also wasn't named, has been told of his death.

Trooper investigators were en route to the scene Monday evening.
