46-year-old lost diplomatic mail bag found on Mont Blanc

Better late than never.

A bag containing very late and very wet Indian diplomatic correspondence and newspapers has been found in the French Alps, close to where an Air India Boeing 707 crashed 46 years ago.

The Agence France-Presse reported that a mountain rescue worker and his neighbor recovered the bag stamped "Diplomatic mail" and "Ministry of External Affairs" on Mont Blanc after some tourists reported seeing "something shining" on the Bossons glacier.

The two men also found pieces of the cabin, a shoe, cables and a plane wheel.

The Air India plane had been en route from Mumbai to New York when it crashed in January 1966 killing all 117 passengers and crew on board.

The mail bag has been handed to police in town of Chamonix at the base of Mont Blanc, Western Europe's highest mountain, the BBC reported.

AFP said the Indian Embassy in Paris would look into recovering the bag of very, very late mail.
