The 49th Estate: snowboarder's haven

The 49th Estate is our answer to MTV's "Cribs," a weekly tour of Alaska homes and interviews with their owners.

Erik Gabrielson lives and works to snowboard, and his house reflects that. The green, single-story house in Eagle River is a base for backcountry trips north to Hatcher Pass and south to Turnagain Pass, and his garage holds Gabrielson's hand-painted snowmachine, along with a lot of snowboards.

Gabrielson is a member of Binge, a crew of snowboarders and skiers who film their backcountry adventures and release a film every year. After a long day in the mountains, the whole Binge pack will often retreat to Gabrielson's house with some beer and pizza, settling in to review footage they shot that day.
