Alaska Beat

5.0 quake rattles Southcentral

The Cook Inlet region felt an good-sized earthquake just after 7 p.m. on Wednesday. According to the Alaska Earthquake Information Center, the 4.99 magnitude quake's epicenter was 16 miles west-northwest of Willow and was rather shallow, centered 12 miles beneath the ground. The quake didn't cause a tsunami, so coastal towns needn't worry. KTVA-TV reports that damage was extremely light: Drinks were spilled in Eagle River and a clock may have fallen off the wall at the Willow Fire Hall.
