Admiral Colvin pushes for Law of the Sea Treaty

According to KTOO-FM (Juneau, via APRN), U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Christopher Colvin has spoken in strong favor of the U.S. ratifying the international Law of the Sea Treaty. The U.S. is one of 18 nations which have signed the treaty but haven't ratified it yet. Admiral Colvin said ratifying the treaty is imperative and that it would extend U.S. soveriegn control of the seafloor off of Alaska's coast from the current 200-mile limit to 440 miles, covering an area which China has already begun exploring. Ratifying the treaty still has opponents in Congress. Read and listen to much more, here.
