AFN calls for subsistence priority

According to Alaska Newspapers Inc. (via The Tundra Drums), the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) has sent a letter to Secretary Ken Salazar offering improvements to management of subsistence hunting and fishing in Alaska's federal lands and waters. In October, the federal government announced the first-ever review of the program. Among other things, AFN's letter asks that the rural subsistence preference granted by the federal government be applied to all land and waters in Alaska, and that a fund be set up to reimburse Native people for the millions they've spent defending the preference from the state and other groups. Find more, including a link to the letter itself, here.
