AK Olympians make history

According to the Anchorage Daily News, Alaska's own Jeremy Teela finished in ninth place in the 10k biathlon on Sunday, the best-ever U.S. finish in an Olympic biathlon event. Teela's ninth-place finish was one place better than the previous best, fellow Alaskan Jay Hakkinen's tenth place at the 2006 Winter Games in Torino. A wicked snowstorm halfway through the race made conditions very difficult on racers with late start positions, including Hakkinen, who ended up finishing 51st. Teela made U.S. history, but Alaska's Kerry Weiland, an Olympic hockey player, made a bit of personal history, tallying her first point in Olympic competition during her debut against China. Weiland notched an assist in the 12-1 rout. Read much more here.
