Alaska couple, baby and toddler, going on 2-month glacier trek

According to the Juneau Empire, Erin McKittrick and Bretwood (Hig) Higman, of Seldovia, are preparing to embark on a two-month wilderness trek this fall to make first-hand observations of environmental changes at Malaspina Glacier. They both hold graduate degrees in scientific fields and plan to write a book after their trip. The couple has made, and written about, long-distance treks in Alaska before, including a yearlong journey by pack-raft from Seattle to the Aleutian Islands. But long-term expeditions happen pretty often in Alaska, so what's the big deal? McKittrick and Bretwood are bringing both of their kids along, 8-month-old Lituya and 2-1/2-year old Katmai. Katmai is no greenhorn, either.
