Alaska's favorite wearable art runway show, Object Runway, was a total hit. Local models strutted down a white catwalk specially constructed inside Anchorage's Bear Tooth Theater to a packed house of family, fans and curious onlookers on Thursday night.
The event, in its fourth year, is a fundraiser for the International Gallery of Contemporary Art in downtown Anchorage. It's a way to encourage local artist and designers to push the limits of modern fashion.
"The interest is just amazing," IGCA board member Holly McQuinn told KTVA. "People are wanting to come and be designers, people are wanting to come to the show. People want to talk about it and participate in different ways and we really love that."
This year's sold out show featured a dress made entirely out of fresh roses, one crafted from Pabst Blue Ribbon beer cans, another constructed out of a halved sleeping bag and a show-stopping "walrus dress," where a pregnant model was adorned with long dangling "tusk earrings" and given a bejeweled train made to look like the sea mammal's tail.
The OR4 winner, however, was Zoe Schneider's Klondike-inspired, cocktail-straw gown.
The dresses will now have a second chance at reaching the public when they go on display as art pieces at the International Gallery of Contemporary Art.
