Alaska tsunami warnings canceled, no damage reported

According to numerous sources, a 7.3-magnitude earthquake hit the Aleutians near Amukta Pass in the Fox Islands group Thursday evening amid a busy week for the Ring of Fire. It triggered tsunami warning alerts for a portion of Aleutian coastline, sending many people to higher ground in Atka and Dutch Harbor/Unalaska, but it was withdrawn after no wave indications were observed. Alert sirens were activated mistakenly in the Kenai Peninsula Borough, where no tsunami warning was in effect. Homer News reports the sirens went off in Homer, and KTUU-TV viewers say they sounded in Seldovia and Seward, too. No damage was reported as a result of the first quake, or the subsequent smaller quakes that ranged from 4.2- to 4.7-magnitude and hit Friday morning.
