Alaskan Brewing listed among top breweries nationwide

The Brewers Association, a non-profit trade organization dedicated to small and independent American breweries, has tabulated lists of the top-selling breweries in the U.S. for 2011, both craft-beer and overall. Juneau-based Alaskan Brewing and Bottling Company has landed on them both.

By sales volume, Alaskan Brewing ranked fourteenth among craft breweries, behind Brooklyn Brewery. The category's top producer was Boston Brewing Co., which makes a range of beers under the Samuel Adams label. Sierra Nevada came in second.

Alaskan also came in twenty-first in the overall category, which as many beer lovers will guess was dominated by the mega brewers. Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors claimed first and second respectively. Boston Brewing wound up fifth.

Look for Alaskan Brewing to rise in the standings released next year. This February, Alaskan Brewing announced that it would be expanding its reach by selling its beers in five thirsty Texas cities.
