Alaskans build recycled yurt

According to a guest post by Niki Raapana on Tiny House Blog, her portable yurt at Tim Redington's "Camp Redington" near Kenny Lake is unique in that it has been built entirely of scraps of lumber and other building materials, dead timber and fabric that was probably headed for a dump. She calls her version of the standard yurt a "Gertee." Her post has all kinds of photographs of its construction, from Spring 2007 to today. Since building it and moving in, she has continued to refine her design, but still wants someone to invent space-saving kitchen gear that fits round walls. She's currently working on a book explaining how to build a Gertee for yourself. Read more from Tiny House, here, and find her personal blog, here. Also, Treehugger has a summary item about Raapana's Tiny House post. Alaska Beat finds entertaining Treehugger's reaction to Camp Redington's visitor disclaimer (fair warning about dead things, noise, fish guts and odors during summer's bustle): " ... sounds like a hopping place."
