Anch. boosts sexual assault force

According to KTUU, Anchorage Police have seen a 35 percent rise in reported cases of sexual assault and rape, and have transferred another detective to its Special Victims Unit, bringing the total to eight. Authorities say that they don't think anything fundamental is changing with regard to such crimes, but they do think reporting is on the rise. The executive director of the advocacy and crisis group, Standing Together Against Rape, tells KTUU that it's a good thing that reporting the crimes is becoming more frequent. That way, more offenders and repeat offenders might be taken off the streets. Read more here. We know the Anchorage Police Department is doing the best it can, but it would be neat to see rape convictions rise 35 percent, too.
