Anchorage ballet, international dancers light up stage at 'Christmas 2012'

On Friday and Saturday, ballet dancers from Alaska, New York, Mexico and England will grace the stage of the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts in the Anchorage Ballet's gala production of "Christmas 2012." The seasonal performance offers a fusion of classical ballet and contemporary dance, featuring vignettes from the holiday classic Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker."

The Anchorage Classical Ballet Academy and the Underground Dance Company provide the backbone to this year's show. The Alaska groups will be accompanied by international dancers Emma Lister and Lorien Slaughter principal dancers with the English Youth Ballett and former ACBA student Michelle Katcher, who now dances at the Gelsey Kirkland Academy Studio Company in New York City.

The 2012 choreography was created by Farah Canale of the Anchorage Ballet, along with Michelangelo Canale, Holly Haney and Regina Pilkus.

The performance will take place in the Atwood Concert Hall at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Reserve tickets here.
