According to a press release, Anchorage Municipal Clerk Barbara Gruenstein has resigned. Gruenstein was responsible for the supervision of the controversial April 3 elections.
In Gruenstein's resignation letter, she says she recognizes that, due to the April 3 election problems, doubt about her effectiveness was roused within the Anchorage Assembly. Gruenstein writes:
She adds:
Gruenstein has offered to stay on the job until the end of June. She cited a desire for a smooth transition to her successor as the reason.
Gruenstein's resignation comes on the heels of Deputy Clerk Jacqueline Duke's dismissal. Duke, a key player in overseeing the flawed election, was the first person to be let go over the entanglement.
A copy of the letter is attached.
