Anthony Bourdain brings food and travel to show to CNN

Celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain will begin hosting a new weekend show about food and travel next year on CNN.

It will air on Sunday nights in prime time and repeated on Saturday nights, according to the Associated Press.

CNN said it "will be shot on location and examine cultures from around the world through their food and dining and travel rituals." Bourdain will also be a commentator on CNN, the New York Times reported.

Bourdain's moves to CNN after he finishes up his current show with the Travel Channel.

"We have license to love a wide variety of news, not just war and politics, but other things that reflect all aspects of our lives," said Mark Whitaker, CNN executive vice president and managing editor.

Bourdain's program will be made by his own production company, Zero Point Zero Productions, something new for CNN, the AP wrote.

The announcement comes amid CNN's worst ratings weeks over the past 20 years and a recent round of layoffs.
