Army Corps denies NPR-A permit

According to APRN, the Army Corps of Engineers has denied ConocoPhillips' permit application to build a bridge across the Colville River in order to gain easier access to what would be the first oil and gas lease developed in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska. Two federal agencies, the EPA and Fish and Wildlife Service objected to the amount of impact the plan would have on wetlands in the Colville Delta. The decision named two alternatives to the plan involving the road and bridge, both of which utilize horizontal drilling. Conoco has 60 days to appeal the Corps' decision.
