Later in August, Alaska Dispatch will again host the Arctic Imperative Summit at the Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, 40 miles south of Anchorage along Turnagain Arm.

Arctic Imperative, now in its second year, brings together local, state, national and international leaders of business and public policy to discuss circumpolar development, environment, investment, government, public policy and community. Last year's summit included discussions about national Arctic policy, infrastructure needs in the U.S. Arctic and public-private investment in major projects. Other panels explored Alaska Native concerns about Arctic offshore oil development and increasing traffic in the Bering Strait region.

This year's summit will feature Arctic experts, policymakers, scientists and international Arctic dignitaries. See this year's schedule of events here. The summit will take place Aug. 24-27.
