Buccanneer jack-up rig gets 2 names for price of 1

Call it the Endeavour. And The Spirit of Independence.

They're the lucky winners of the "Name the Rig" contest sponsored by Buccaneer Energy, an event that drew 300 submissions. The company liked the names so much they chose two instead of one.

Plenty of contestants entered Endeavour -- apparently after Captain Cook's adventurous ship. Buccaneer chose the first entry from Ed Marker.

Erik Lindow dubbed it the Spirit.

The LeTourneau 116-C jack-up rig, more than 300 feet tall and capable of tapping reservoirs 20,000 feet deep, is supposed to work in Cook Inlet.

"When she arrives, she is most certainly here to stay and will play a large role in not only providing energy for the state, but also helping to spur the local economy by creating an estimated 300 jobs," said a statement from the company.
