Thanks to a federal program that funds Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS), the intersection of the Glenn and Parks highways, one of the most highly traveled corridors in Alaska, has new equipment to improve safety and driver awareness, according to an announcement from Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF).
The department has completed the installation of three RWIS sites at the intersection which include cameras, a temperature data probe for seasonal weight restrictions, and sensors for road surface temperature, wind-speed, precipitation, moisture and traffic speed.

The new Glenn-Parks intersection sites will also soon be available at 511.alaska.gov. 511 is a traveler advisory program that provides notices in multiple formats: on the webpage, through GovDelivery, by telephone, RSS feeds or through Facebook.
