The facebook group Feeding My Family, plans to host another food price protest in Nunuvit, Northwest Territories, Canada this weekend.
According to Nunatsiaq Online, the Nunavut-wide protest is an effort to rally residents to "to stand together as one" against astronomical food prices facing the area. The protest will be the third of its kind organized and carried out by Nunavummiut who aim to a point out the difficulty of living with high food prices in Iqaluit and other Nunavut communities.
On Feeding My Family's Facebook page, Iqaluit organizer Leesee Papatsie writes, "it is scary and something that we Inuit were taught not to do, but we have to find a way to stop this high cost of food" in our community. She adds, "We need to do it for the kids, elders, single parents and people living paycheck to paycheck."
Nunatsiaq Online reports that protest "are planned in front of grocery stores in Grise Fiord, Pond Inlet, Qikiqtarjuaq, Pangnirtung, Gjoa Haven, Arviat and Kugluktuk." The plan is for people to gather with signs and messages outside "area stores or anywhere else that sells food, to protest the high prices of food in the communities."
