Check the outhouse for ducks

As if people needed another reason to hate using pit toilets ... now they should keep an eye out for birds in the tank. According to a completely hilarious story from KTVA-TV, the station's chief meterologist stumbled upon an unusual -- and rare -- problem while camping at Paxon Lake with his parents. They found a duck swimming in the tank of an outhouse. Officials say ducks and other birds can get down into the tank through the vent atop the structures, but that it is rare. Nevertheless, the state is in the process of putting wire mesh on outhouse vents at facilities where the most stranded bird reports originate. Watch much more, here. Incidentally, this is unrelated to the wildlife issue, but Alaska Beat has to say it anyway: Please people, close the lid when you're done.
